Applications to run for election for the College’s Board of Directors open on April 14. Below, Board Chair Doug Brown shares more about the Board’s role and why you may want to consider running for election.
Dear registrants,
As pharmacy professionals we have all seen the rapid evolution of our roles as the healthcare system has adapted in recent years to better meet the needs of patients. Many Ontarians without access to primary care have increasingly relied on their local pharmacy to provide safe, high-quality care that includes services such as minor ailment assessments, vaccines, and some point-of-care tests.
And as the scope of our profession expands, so too does the importance of having a diverse group of dedicated pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who can bring the privilege of self-regulation to life on the Board of Directors of the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
As the Board Chair, I can tell you that it is highly fulfilling to serve and protect the public interest by regulating the profession and helping ensure that pharmacy care in Ontario is safe, accessible, ethical and meets the standards and laws governing the profession.
Board members have been actively focused on setting and overseeing strategic direction, approving policies and regulations, and governing the regulatory activities of the College that are defined in legislation and set out by the provincial government.
For the 2025-26 Board election we are seeking experienced pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, particularly those from diverse populations or marginalized groups or those who have experience serving these groups. We are also interested in qualified candidates with finance competencies to support our Board’s financial oversight and accountability role.
If you have some or all of these attributes, and if you can commit one to three days of your valuable time each month, I encourage you to apply as a candidate before the deadline of May 2, 2025.
Together we can continue to build and maintain the public’s trust in the profession of pharmacy and meaningfully contribute to the College’s important public interest mandate.
And when it comes time to vote later this summer, from July 17-August 6, 2025, I strongly urge you all to cast your ballot. Your voice is extremely valuable when it comes to choosing the right candidates to help regulate our profession, and we want to make sure as many eligible voters as possible participate.
Doug Brown
Board Chair
